What I’m Wearing – Spring 2017

Soooooo plot twist: University of La Verne was not for me! The people weren’t right, the food was MOST DEFINITELY not right, but overall the vibes of the the whole college were just not right! And the fashion? Literally non-existent, unless someone was going to a frat event. So after withdrawing from La Verne I’ve taken up my new career path: Stripping Across America under my new name, BoBo!

Ok sooo maybe not that exciting but a girl can dream.

I’ve actually switched to LA City College because who doesn’t love the city of angels and pollution? So you’d think that after such a big move from a small town to one of the biggest cities the outfits would be poppin’ 24/7, right???

WRONG

My biggest style icons have been reduced to a boy that smells like hot dog water and a woman who’s hair looks like strands of ribbon.. Tragic, I know..

So until I can make more style conscience friends, I’ll have to be my own style icon.

So the first things that I wear almost everyday are GLASSES

I have a couple pairs of glasses/sunglasses that I love to throw on with any outfit and it always seems to throw everything together or add a little flare!

Desmond’s Orange Glasses

I picked up the Purple-ish ones from this nifty little swap meet in LA called the Melrose Trading Post. It’s pretty much another attempt for Angelenos to appear chic and hipster (but it was pretty cute so I can’t complain LOL). There was a booth filled to the brim with sunglasses and they were all SO CHEAP, so I picked these up for a good $7.

The Scary Potter glasses also came from LA! A group of friends and I took a trip out and made a stop at the Fashion District; known for it’s low prices and even lower quality… BUT I GOT THESE GLASSES FOR $5 SO WE’RE LIT BINCH!

Lastly the Narc glasses came from Cotton On, a new favorite store of mine due to their low prices and super stylish clothes. Only down side to that store is their creepy ass lifelike mannequins… but the glasses were $10 so again, WE’RE LIT BINCH!!!

Lastly we have Desmond’s orange glasses. The glasses are from Forever 21 and he paid about $7 for them!

NEXT, SWEATERS

Okay so while y’all may be thinking “Sweaters.. in the Spring.. when its getting hot???” don’t worry, I have reasoning!

In LA it highly gets chilly in the morning and so its always good to pack a light sweater that you can aways just shove in your bag.

The first sweater is a windbreaker from Hollister. I was first turned off when I walked into the store because the work said “HI WELCOME TO HOLLISTER!” I walked right out.

But eventually my friend made me go back in and I found this gem. It was about $60 but thanks to my Club Cali Member status (and my friend paying for half of it, Shhhhhhh..) it was only like $30. GREAT RIGHT???

The 2nd & 3rd jackets are from Forever 21 (as much of my wardrobe is tbh.) The first one ($30) is great because it makes me look way more fashionable than I actually am, and the 3rd one ($25) is fantastic because it’s distressed! Since it’s a little heavier the distressed holes make it really easy for air to move through it! Functional and fashionable!

Lastly is the S H O E S

I haven’t purchased too many shoes in the past couple of months BUT two that I’ve had my eye on are Adidas Superstars ($80( & Black + White Checkered Vans ($55). I’ve literally seen everyone wearing both of these, from YouTubers, to celebrities, and even my friends! So when I saw these starting to pick up some talk I knew I had to buy some for myself. They’re both black and white, meaning that they pretty much go w any outfit. On top of their style flexibility they are also super-duper comfy and great for walking, which we all know I don’t actually do sooooo idk why i mentioned that…

So that’s pretty much it for this time and next time I remember this blog exists, I’ll post some more! Bye binch!

New Transitions

As I make the transition from high school to college I have noticed 2 very important things:

  1. Making new friends is inevitable and should not be feared.

While one may be scared about the fact that life as they know it is drastically changing I am here to say that there is nothing to be be afraid of! I know that I was undeniably and certifiably SHOOK when I even though about the fact that I may have trouble making friends in the new school year. But I’ve learned a major tip: people fit into their niches and find the exactly group and people that they belong with. Follow the same advice that your parents gave you on the first day of Kindergarten: “Be Yourself And People Will Love You!” As you throw out your own personal brand of positivity and originality into the collegiate mix you will find that the best sorts of people that match your personality will surround you.

I’ve learned that while you may want to completely reinvent yourself and hang out with a new crowd it’s not always the worst idea to stick to your roots. I came into college wanting to hang out with a more “popular” or “well-known” group. Not to say that my friends in high school were not the best (because trust me, THEY ARE!) but I always wondered what it may be like to attend parties every weekend and take a dip in a private pool every once and a while (LOL)! But now I find myself searching for like-minded individuals who share my same interests, whether that be in musical theatre or even the different styles and trends that I’m into.

The group I have pictured above, while admittedly are not always the most interested in my hobbies, are actually an amazing set of friends that keep me grounded and always on my feet. A breath of fresh air in the smog of adult life! I enjoy their sass and their willingness to call people out when they step out of line! Never doubt your ability to make friends because no matter what, the right people will gravitate into your life!

My 2nd point is this: DON’T LEAVE YOUR HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS BEHIND!

While making new friends is of the utmost importance it’s also critical to make sure you don’t leave your old friends behind! The end of high school is all about new beginnings and everyone going their separate ways. The tea is, everyone eventually walks along their own new path. This does not at all mean that their path may not intersect yours at some point in life (or even run along it)!

Assuming you had a great high school experience with exceptional friends (such as I, LOL) you may find that in the past 4 years of life these people have become more of a family; helping you through the low times, lifting you to the highs in life. It’s critical (and surprisingly easier than you may think) to keep these people in your life. Often you’ll find that a little distance never killed anybody. Your friendship can still blossom with some help from a little sunshine and rain, otherwise known as dedication and willingness. If both sides are not willing to continue the friendship then, as any relationship might, it will eventually wither away and no longer be fruitful. Keep hope alive and never underestimate the power of a old friend!

At the end of the day I am proud to say that I am still very good friends with all of my besties from high school! It’s completely doable and I’ll always be grateful for these people and the wonderful experiences I have had, and will continue to have with them!
